Lincoln Families is partnering with the Contra Costa County Black Infant Health (BIH) program which aims to empower pregnant and mothering Black women to make healthy choices for themselves and their children as well as build a community that stands up against the injustices towards African-American women and their birthing experiences. The BIH program aims to help reduce stress, build resilience, promote healthy behaviors, and increase social support.

POSITION SUMMARY: With dual reporting to a Program Manager and the BIH Clinical Supervisor, the Childwatch position is an essential role that provides child supervision services for families participating in Group Sessions. Please note this role does not take place at a childcare facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provides child watch for parents/caregivers participating in BIH programming.
• Utilizes BIH procedure manual and best practices to create enriching childcare experiences for children ages 18 months to 8 years.
• Creates an environment that sparks creativity and nurtures learning in children, and builds community and leadership with parents.
• Assists in planning and leading recreational and enrichment activities as needed.
• Completes and maintains all service documentation and statistics as required.
• Supports parents/caregivers with separation strategies and helps coregulate children.
• Increases child development awareness for parents to respond to their child’s needs and behaviors.
• Communicates with parents/caregivers regarding a child’s time in their care.
• Supports attachment and bonding between parent and child.
• Conducts light outreach and recruitment activities to the targeted population to effectively promote program services.
• Most work will be performed in-person at the physical center; there may be times when work is required at others sites or in the community. This may require driving or use of public transportation. (Approved drivers must have a valid CA driver’s license, personal automobile insurance and satisfactory driving record.)

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Lived understanding of African American culture and history, and general working knowledge of family systems, community trauma, and community organizing or advocacy. Demonstrated awareness of, sensitivity to and competence in dealing with cultural and socioeconomic diversity of client population with proven success working with people with different perspectives and backgrounds. Genuine interest and passion for serving African American families, working within a team approach, and building resources. Must be reliable, personable, creative, nurturing, and able to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

• Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 1 year of related work experience preferred
• Non-profit and/or experience with school and public systems experience preferred
• Experience with basic Early Childhood development principles and practices a plus
• Basic computer skills with experience using Microsoft programs and/or Google suite
